Why Do People Flock to the Negative?

Author: ophelia  |  Category: Law of Attraction

It amazes me that if I write a post about empowerment then there is no reaction, but if I get mad and write a post cursing at someone then all of a sudden people come out of the woodwork. While I appreciate everyone who loved my credit post, I must admit that I wrote it in the heat of anger, tears  – and while those seem to be my strongest emotions, maybe that emotion should have been turned inside of me to figure out why the label of thief bothered me so much.

There is nothing external. There never is. Mrs. Moorhead only touched a nerve that was already there; something inside of me felt hurt by this description, felt she was talking about me or to me which really isn’t true – she was talking about herself and to herself. Isn’t that what blogging is about, what diaries or weblogs are about? Internal reflections on what is going on in our respective worlds, and we use it to speak to others, hopefully inspire or teach them lessons.

Why does it seem that the latest negative or bad blood is immediately rushed and fed upon yet the inspiration and successes are quickly dismissed, much like how this post will be quickly dismissed?…

Is there a reason why we crave the drama and the negative? Do people really flock to the negative?

I have a comment on this…I notice this tendency in people also, and think it can partially be attributed to the complex issue of self-esteem for many people.

Humans are naturally fascinated – at least for a certain stage of development as we progress to maturity – by the downfall or vulnerability of others. You see it in the rubber-necking that goes on when there is an accident on the highway…I think I’m the only person I know who does NOT look, preferring to offer the accident victim some privacy and respect, at least from one passerby. God knows I would not appreciate the gawking if I were in that place.

Point is, I think there is some strange fascination because we all realize subconsciously that we could so easily be in such situations…maybe we like to ‘big ourselves up’ by being judgemental or righteous and pointing out how dumb somebody else is being…because it makes us feel better about our own mediocre lives and choices. I may be off-base here, or perhaps not explaining my thoughts well, but I do know what Ophelia means, and just wanted to weigh in.

I, for one, am at the point where I have no time nor concern for negativity, violence, judgement or controversy…it’s a much better place to be for me personally.

Or maybe the post wasn’t so much for you as it was for someone(s) else? You obviously struck a nerve with some folks, including me – who knows, maybe at this time that’s what I/we needed!

I know you boosted me – gave me hope that there are people out there that don’t solely judge on something as superficial as a credit rating. Sometimes things can be overwhelming – it’s nice to know others have gone through the same things.

And as for why people flock to the negative – you both made good points, and there are several others, but I do not want to make another long post again! :-D .

    Theresa,
You are absolutely right and there was someone or alot of someone’s who needed to hear that life doesn’t end because you are going thru a bad time and you now have bad credit.

Usually when I get mad and write a post- I worry that people will get mad but I also realize I have a lot to say
and the place to say it
    Thanks for your support

Sometimes I think people flock to the negative because they feel it’s something they can somehow control, or they feel less somehow because they aren’t putting their two cents worth in.

I am seeing that happen now in an open, public online group I am in. Someone posted off topic, got called on it, responded rudely, and then got called on it again. Other on topic posts were made, people split hairs and griped because of their content, the first person stirred things up more, so on and so forth – and now some are basically complaining about others who are complaining – therefore doing the same thing they are, but the first people just complained first!

    Geesh.

I guess I need to break the habit of looking at my email first thing in the morning – but it seems kind of silly not to at least get it while I’m reading my webcomics :) .

Unfortunately sometimes negativity resolves things faster. I stayed in Cancun a couple of years ago and our room didn’t exist so they put us in a much smaller room for one night. The next morning they said they didn’t have a bigger room for us. By the afternoon I was not happy. I got upset and the problem was then immediately fixed by the hotel. It wasn’t fixed until I got upset. They upgraded us to an even bigger room than we wanted for the same price.

I rarely do this but some people only respond to negativity. I’ve had to use it and then meditate afterwards to get it out of my system.

A good hotel should upgrade you immediately and this all could have been avoided. They choose differently.

I read Ophelia\’s article on not being rich because of minidramas in your life – it brings up some good reasons why negativity attracts people. You can find it here: http://www.breathingprosperity.com/you%20are%20not%20rich.html
