Personal Development: How Badly Do You Want It and Are You Willing to Fight For It?

Author: ophelia  |  Category: Law of Attraction

A lot of people will answer the question by saying a lot – I really want this or I really want that – but the fact of the matter is that most people don’t want it badly enough!

Now It may be anything that you want to achieve whether money, love, happiness or a house on the hill – the question still remains: How badly do you want it?

I was watching a movie - Cinderella man – and if you’ve ever seen the movie, the guy and his family have no money, food or heat and it’s a recession. He was a champion fighter and now he could barely get work. He gets a chance to go back into the ring – to fight again, for money. There is a scene where he is in the ring and he is getting beaten – he is losing badly…At that moment, his thoughts flash to his wife and kids barely having bread, no heat and disconnection notices and immediately he wanted to win badly. He needed to win badly. Now he wants it badly and he wins the fight. Later on an interviewer asks him, ‘What is different now from before? You stopped winning fights before,’ He says well I was injured and fighting for a few years but this time I know what I’m fighting for and the reporter says Jimmy what are you fighting for and he says for MILK…

Have you ever seen someone training for the olympics? How badly do they want to win the olympics or qualify to be in the olympics? It may be 4 years away, but how badly do they want it? Do they want it badly enough to train every day for 4 years just to be a part of an olympics that may last a few days? How about someone going for a school scholarship – whether basketball, football or academic. How badly do they want it? What are they willing to do to get it? Almost anything – give up all their free time, skip parties, lose a lot of their friends because they don’t have time to chat and go out.

Recently that question has been coming back for me every day – How badly do you want it? At some point you get to the place where you either put up or shut up! I mean you can get up every day spinning your I want to be successful story but at some point you get to a crossroads where you’ve got to decide – How badly do I want this?

Do you want it badly enough to put in the time and the hours and the missed dances, the loss of friends to get it..or are  you just saying it because it sounds good to hear? Sooner or later people get tired of hearing it. How many times can you spin the business you are going to open, the restaurant, the laundrymat? How many times can you do that before people realize – maybe you realize - that you don’t want it badly enough?…

Are you fighting for MILK? Most people if you ask them their goals they are usually detached from it. If they get it fine and if they don’t that’s cool too. They don’t want it so bad that it takes over their life. Have you gone without food for a few hours or maybe a day and felt hunger pains like you would die if you didn’t eat? At that moment you would basically do anything for food and as time passes you will resort to more desperate measures…

Yeah but Ophelia I need food to live but I don’t need my goals to live…Well maybe that’s why you don’t have them! Because they aren’t so much a part of you that you need them to live.

Im surprised noone is posting a comment to this post. It is really an important aspect to self development. How bad do you really want it. I agree with the author who posted this and bringing it to our attention. Another question many people find difficult to awnser is “What do you really want?”

    Hi Gary,
I think what do you really want is probably one of if not the most important personal development questions.

Most people have no clue what they want- they just know they don’t want what they current have.
    Thanks for the comment.

Personally I have been setting goals, visualizing, and also dreaming about my dream for the past many years… it seems not really happening to me for some time, however I did not give up and I keep looking for more answers to my questions and also that missing puzzle which I was trying to figure out.
