Law of Attraction: Why Aren’t You Constantly Creating Your Life?

Author: ophelia  |  Category: Conscious Creation, Law of Attraction

I just read my email from one of the many groups I’m a part of, and here on this bright Thursday morning as I am getting ready to go work out, I read about someone’s life and how they are fighting the forces of evil in their lives. The stories seem to come from everywhere, people telling you what happened to them yesterday and then someone else says “You think that’s bad? Wait till you hear what happened to me!”  Everyone else listens in turn, waiting for one person to finish so they can show you that your life is not quite as bad as theirs.

When I first met Peggy, we would talk and every time I spoke to her she’d tell me how something broke down in her house or her backyard…I kept thinking like how much stuff breaks down in your house? Why was she creating all this stuff breaking down? As soon as one area was resolved a leak in the water pipes would show up, till one day I said ‘Geez stop whenever I call you or you talk to anyone else DON’T TALK ABOUT STUFF BREAKING DOWN IN YOUR HOUSE! When someone says how are you? Say fine – Not huffing and puffing and telling me how you called the plumber, your insurance company and the carpenter – I don’t wanna hear it!’ Okay it sounds harsh but the more she talked about it, the more she kept creating it.

I used to listen when people spoke about their lives and it occured to me that if they didn’t have the stuff to talk about, the water heater, the plumber, the things that have gone wrong they would be really bored – What would they hav to talk about? So one day Shauna tried it out with one of her friends – The person sent her an email about her life and Shauna said ‘Oh my life is great, things are going fine!’ The conversation ended there! There really wasn’t anything left to say. How do you follow up life is great, what do you say? Usually the conversations continue because someone is moaning about their lives and you add yours in too – Oh I remember when I had no food, Oh that happened to me the other day, Oh the cow jumped over the moon and ran away with the spoon…

Tony Robbins said that a lot of people major in minor things – there is the trash to take out, the phone calls to make, got to work 8 hours, need to call my mom back, yeah got to sleep too – and that soon they are just living and not creating…It occured to me yesterday that most people, myself included, are using the Law of Attraction or affirmations when they think of something – Oh I want a blue Bentley or a cup of coffee – but for the rest of the time, they are unconciously creating. Yeah they ask for something but the rest of their lives still look the same. If you aren’t conciously creating your entire life, who is? It’s creating itself based on old programming. That’s why a lot of people get small things but the majority of their life doesn’t change…

When was the last time that you created every aspect of your life? When was the last time you sat down and wrote down how you want your life to be, not just I want a car or a million dollars but your entire life? I thought about this on the way to the gym this morning and it occured to me that the last time I created my entire life was when I was broke. I wanted my life to change so badly that if they had told me I needed to be on a coconut tree, look down and scream ‘timber!’ while holding my left foot with my right hand, I’d have done it. I was reading every book I could get my hands on, anything that would make a difference. You know that portion of your life where things just cannot continue the same, where it just had to change – you couldn’t go on living like that - when you drank tears as your morning tea…but then you create a better life and you move into said life and then you get really comfy and you think ‘Wow! I remember being broke…Oh well. MARIA can you get me a glass of orange juice?’ and now all of a sudden you are creating things here and there but not your entire life. That sort of limbo portion.

Maybe this is just me. Anyway, I’m thinking of running my own 30 day create your life experiment to take my life to the next level. Why aren’t YOU constantly creating your life?

    Ophelia,

This is true. I remember when this shift happened to me. Remember when I called you one day because I’d spoken to Peggy and she’d asked what was going on and I’d said, ‘Nothing really? OMG! That’s not true! Lots is going on. My marriage has improved. The husband has a job. I feel great. The babies are well. We are in the dream living space. My health is fantastic. My kitchen is beautiful and can you believe it clean!!!! There is a LOT going on here but since I didn’t have anything to complain about, I said nothing at first and then caught myself. So, what’s going on with you?’ I don’t remember the rest of the conversation with Peggy that day, but I do remember that shift very profoundly. Since then, things have only gotten better and better. When people ask how I’m doing, I tell the truth because now I’m not focused on the negative. Sometimes things are GREAT and sometimes I don’t feel so good. Either way, I tell the truth and I notice that I feel great more often than not.

Great post – thanks for the reminder, each moment of my external reality is a reflection of my thoughts.

I agree – you reap what you sow. Which is really the secret behind The Secret… And it is getting a lot of attention lately, hasn’t it?

Oprah endorses it. People are talking about it. A DVD called “The Secret” is making the rounds. And it all has to do with the Law of Attraction. What is this law? Is it biblical? Should Christians be concerned? Let’s explore this topic together and discover the secret behind The Secret in a free teleconference.

Lyn – While I doubt you’ll return to see this comment to your comment, I feel that it is tacky and disrespectful to so blatantly advertise on a blog comment. I realize it worked – I followed your link and was pleasantly surprised to find someone with an open mind that’s willing to look at several sides of an issue without falling back on stereotypes.

Christians and others forget that Christians are not “Stepford Believers,” each of us are different human beings with different beliefs and/or levels of beliefs.

    Hi Ophelia,

I love your post and LaKeitha’s comment – I’m so used to saying nothing’s happening because nothing BAD is happening!

I am so prone to focusing on the negative. I am trying to use LOA to help me; after almost 37 years of immersion in negativity – my tendency is still to strongly slide backwards and into the past instead of looking forward with positiveness.

I want to keep that focus on the positive and do some true changing, instead of the unconscious creations that I’m making.

I’m printing out your post and LaKeitha’s reply, and will fix them where I can see them often….

    Thanks :)

    Theresa

Thanks for posting our your own blog-HAHAH TRYING TO BE FUNNY!

    Hi Tori and Theresa,
Thanks for commenting, Tori I think we all need to be reminded to create, me especially..
    Theresa,
Thanks for that post to Lyn, We had the same thought when we saw it,was actually going to delete it but thought it would fix itself which it did by your comment- See we are all creating..and maybe by us not deleting the comment- It brought something to your life as well.

Self improvement and Law of Attraction takes time and is an ongoing process- so don’t worry about the fact that you slide back sometimes- Let me introduce you to the queen of that- Find a prosperity partner or partners who will be there for you on those days when it’s hard to look at the bright side of things and you should be fine.
    Love Ophelia
wow that sounds so strange LOVE OPHELIA

Thanks Theresa for taking the time to comment and then posting your comment at my blog. I apologize – it was a bit tacky. I didn’t mean any disrespect, however. I realize that bloggers reserve the right to delete or edit content, so I would have understood had Ophelia rejected the “advertisement” – however, I’m glad it produced this conversation.

Appreciate your feedback and also for realizing that I am fairly openminded when it comes to the “self-help” principles espoused by The Secret and other resources. I just have a different take on where those principles come from and how to apply them. So that was what was behind the teleconference invite. Again, I apologize for going about it in a way that didn’t seem appropriate.

    Lyn

  9. Theresa says:

Thanks. I’m glad I came across as respectful to your ideas and to you as a person – I don’t mind debates, but I’ve seen them quickly get ugly. Sometimes, I’m sorry to say, I don’t get that across. Plus I’m coming off of a bad cold/flu from this weekend, so I was a bit concerned that I had sounded worse than I meant to!

While I missed your call, Lynn – hope it went well, btw, (I’m at school on Monday nights) – I feel that at least part of the “Christian” backlash against LOA and other self-help techniques is that it makes you think more positive and DO something, rather than just piously sit there with hands folded, waiting for God or someone to “supply all your needs” and “solve all your problems.”

I see so much of only the latter being taught, especially to the kids, and then HUGE surprise when it doesn’t turn out that way. I got caught in that trap – all through school I bought the “be a good girl and get great grades and everything will work out” – I was a lucky one who actually could and did all of that, even making myself sick at times, and yet my “real” jobs have been so much less of what I was/am capable of. Yes, I prayed, and asked and settled for what I thought God was giving me – and lulled myself into “oh well, this is what/all He wants of me…” and so forth.

I’m glad to see now that the trend is to the other side – to say “God’s not going to drop this into your lap for being such a good girl/boy, you’re going to have to do something and know what you want.”

And when you get to it, that’s what Law of Attraction (LOA) is. It is you believing in yourself enough to decide what you want and to do something. The hardest part is the first – knowing that you are worth doing something for yourself, that YOU, what you feel, what you want, your talents and abilities are important, not just as a conduit for somebody/something else, but as YOU.

Then you decide what you want to have happen, what your dreams are, and working towards them. Even if you only write your goals down, and you should, you’re still thinking about them and little/big things will pop up to lead you closer, and you feel good about those things, and the cycle goes again — that’s the big part of LOA. If nothing else, it is a message of feel good and HOPE.

The Biblical message that most people want to focus on is very opposite. They aren’t taught the “God knows every hair on your head,” type verses, meaning that He sees you as a person and a friend and one of His children (without going into the saved-not saved debate here); He is willing to help and aid.

Instead the focus is so often on what I call “Assembly Line Christianity” – you need to be saved so everything that is you can be taken away – unless you can preach, teach or sing – and so we can count you and you can go out and save someone else…and again, and again, and again. If you can do any of the above, well, ok, as long as you only use those talents in the way we would like you too…… And if you would rather do otherwise, then we’ll pray for your sin sick soul, because obviously you’re not a real Christian after all.

Please note, too, that I am not getting into the salvation section here – that’s an aspect that I feel is involved. But too often the religious idea is “I AM GOD – I WILL USE YOU AS I SEE FIT AND TOUGH IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT,” while LOA is a partnership between you and a benevolent God/Universe. It recognizes that you have many things to bring to the table too – created by Him/It, I realize, but still…

I hope I’m making sense this early in the morning! :) Did not realize until a few minutes ago how late it was. Good night!

  10. ophelia says:

    Wow Theresa,
I have to say that comment blew me away I wanted everyone to read it because it is so true so many people follow that exact view point on God and as you mentioned Law of Attraction makes you get off your ass and do something instead of waiting for God to say it’s okay- So love your comments and your point of view..

  11. ophelia says:

    Hey Lyn,
Thanks for the apology- feel free to advertise anytime.. I’m intrested in reading your articles and taking some valuable lessons away from them..
    Good Luck

  12. The Historic Adventist says:

Just stopping by while doing some research on the law of attraction / the secret. I decided to comment because of what I perceive (from a Christian perspective) as the real crucial issue. I don’t think it’s about sitting back and waiting on God vs. getting off your buns and doing something yourself (I believe there is a time and place for both). However, I do believe that when we generalize God and start to think that the universe=God, or that even we=God, then there is an issue. Consider this quote from Rhonda Byrne’s best-selling book “The Secret”:

“You are God in a physical body. You are Spirit in the flesh. You are Eternal Life expressing itself as You. You are a cosmic being. You are all power. You are all wisdom. You are all intelligence. You are perfection. You are magnificence. You are the creator, and you are creating the creation of You on this planet” (p. 164).

    Or, perhaps, this one:

“The earth turns on its orbit for You. The oceans ebb and flow for You. The birds sing for You. The sun rises and it sets for You. The stars come out for You. Every beautiful thing you see, every wondrous thing you experience, is all there for You. Take a look around. None of it can exist, without You. No matter who you thought you were, now you know the Truth of Who You Really Are. You are the master of the Universe. You are the heir to the kingdom. You are the perfection of Life. And now you know The Secret” (p. 183).

I think that these are the types of issues regarding the law of attraction and the secret that Christians should be concerned about.

    Michael

  13. Theresa says:

I let my immediate response to Michael’s post go back then, but after rereading the original post and answers while searching for something else today, I decided to post.

With all due respect, Michael, you are one Christian, please don’t assume you speak for all Christians. If that is how you see and interpret being a Christian, that’s wonderful, but there are several varieties and interpretations under the umbrella of Christian.

I believe that on volatile subjects, especially politics, religion and so forth, that generalizations can be very dangerous and should be avoided whenever possible.

Also, while I understand that the “The Secret” at least partially discusses the Law of Attraction, I don’t see it as the same thing. LOA was around long before TS ever appeared.

I could refute at least some of your points, but since I don’t care to get into a religious theological debate, I’ll leave this at that.

Your Comment is Welcomed!
