Law of Attraction: Does it Apply to Rape, Murder & Poverty? Part 2

Author: Shauna  |  Category: Law of Attraction

Today we continue our discussion about Law of Attraction and the ‘negative’ stuff, as started – bravely – by Ophelia yesterday.

The biggest point here is that we cannot claim responsibility for ‘creating’ all the good stuff, but then consider outside events as things that are ‘happening’ to us, over which we have no control.

While we expect there are many people who will disagree, and argue vehemently that little children do not want to starve to death or that women would not consciously choose to be raped and murdered (I’ve witnessed many such debates in online LOA groups), the fact remains that if this is a LAW, then it applies to everyone and everything – not just some poeple, or under some circumstances.

None of us can know what our intentions were when we came to this level on the playing field, so to speak. By believing the Law of Attraction even exists, we are acknowledging that there is more to life than meets the eye, so without getting into religion or metaphysics, we can simply admit we just don’t know everything there is to know. If we did, what would be the point in anything? No new discoveries, no point in thinking at all…

Could it be that we chose to not know everything, and that events we call negative or bad are just part of the ‘game’ we are playing?…If we are given complete free will, both on this plain (plane?) and on others, is it not possible that in the case of murder or suicide a person or spirit just chooses to leave, and once leaving here everything is just fine and we move on to do or experience something else as we see fit? Thus making the things we experience here have no true and deep meaning except that which we choose to assign to it? In a Landmark forum I once attended, I was told that humans are ‘meaning-making machines’, which seemed to make a lot of sense to me. I love that because it seems true…you can see evidence all around you by observing two different people react completely differently to the same ‘event’.

The point here is that just because something feels painful in the moment does NOT mean that it is bad. It can mean that we can take a look at it and try and see what hand we had in creating or attracting that into our lives, and how we can change our thought patterns – IF we want to. By Law of Attraction, EVERYTHING we experience is a complex result of our past thoughts and actions, our perceptions and our intentions…perhaps also, depending on your beliefs, including the thoughts and intentions of others.

When it comes to death, the subject is tricky to broach because many people hold such deep fears and beliefs surrounding it. I can tell you from my own experience that when people are grieving, it is a process. There is a stage where we feel the need to blame something for the loss suffered, and the shock we feel when we lose someone reminds us of our own mortality as well. My little brother died in a ‘tragic accident’ when I was 17, and I definitely went through a LOT of anger, denial and many other emotions. I was mad at him for leaving, mad at fate for taking him away, mad at myself for asking us to move to the town where he got killed, thinking maybe if we hadn’t moved this would not have happened, mad at the small-town hospital for not being able to save him…etc. etc.. I honestly thought I could not live through the pain. My devastated parents began to file lawsuits against the township for not cutting the grass where he was hit by a car; the hospital; the driver of the car…all part of the human instinct to try and BLAME someone or something. They may even be angry with me for including this detail in my story, but I hope it helps illustrate our point.

At some point, though, time begins to heal things, and in doing so, allows us a little breathing room to begin questioning how we see things (if we choose to). What reasons might I have had for needing to go through that experience? What about his own thoughts? I saw a happy, well-adjusted 14 year old kid, but what do I truly know about his internal state? Can I now appreciate my own child and the gift she is to me every day that much more having seen my parents go through losing a child?…Am I a different person entirely than I would have been if not for this experience?

It’s been long enough now that I have used my experience to benefit others; for example, I have spent many years volunteering for my local hospice, caring for dying people and their families, and helping teens deal with grief when they discover that a friend or relative has died. Perhaps by seeing me they have a living demonstration that things will be OK.

But, as mentioned above, what if each person chooses to leave? What if even though it may seem from our perspective that a person met a violent and tragic end – such as in suicide or murder - they actually had done what they wanted to do here, and decided to move on? How can we truly know the intentions and inner worlds of others, and why do we choose to judge?…

As Ophelia said so brilliantly yesterday, had she actually been hit by a drunk dirver and killed, her family wold have felt angry, upset, sad about the young life taken away etc. etc., but they would be missing the whole point that she created that for herself. She fully ADMITS her part in this situation. By Law of Attraction, are we not responsible for ALL things that happen to us, even in some small way?…we attract that which we think about. Period. It may not be conscious, but what we vibrate on a daily basis is very powerful.

Food for thought, that’s all…
