How to Earn Extra Money

Author: Shauna  |  Category: Wealth Building

I can see that ‘how to earn extra money’ is something many, many people are searching for lately, and it’s no surprise. With horrifying and depressing stories on every nightly news show, and sensationalism surrounding huge executive paydays even while these same executives take voraciously from their customers and clients, we find ourselves, more than ever, in a ‘look out for number one’ mindset.

Luckily, this is fantastic news! If you are looking for ways to earn extra money, this means you are finally willing and able to take your financial future and put its well-being where it belongs: in YOUR hands. We can talk about attracting money using the Law of Attraction all day long, but if you are relying on someone or something else to come through for you – whether it’s your spouse, your company, your parents or your government – you are putting the power in the wrong place. NO ONE has your best interests at heart like you do, so taking complete control of your financial situation is always a good idea, whatever the economy.

When you accept complete responsibility for your financial situation, something magical happens. You can turn the story in your head around completely, and begin producing new, positive results, which will in turn encourage  – shall we say, attract? – more of the same. Instead of focusing on how rotten things are, you can get creative and start making things happen. There is nothing like the feeling of finally taking control and seeing the financial freedom you dream of coming ever closer. It’s intoxicating!

On another note, earning extra money often seems impossible because people feel they do not have enough time for a second or third job. The stark reality is, however, that most of us do not use our time productively, and we don’t use it  in pursuit of our most important goals and objectives. As the venerable Darren Hardy, publisher of Success magazine tells us in his new book The Compound Effect (which I am thoroughly enjoying – thanks, Darren!) tells us, there are likely many hours per day or week which you are now spending doing something utterly unproductive, or perhaps even counterproductive. If you haven’t read this book, go get it – it’s a real eye-opener and gets straight to the point of what it takes to succeed in life. Darren says,

It’s time to WAKE UP and realize that the habits you indulge in could be compounding your life into repeated disaster. The slightest adjustments to your daily routines can dramatically alter the outcomes in your life.

If you think you don’t waste any time, I encourage you to take another look, because there is always room for improvement. This may require some introspection and a little bit of ‘getting honest with yourself’ about how you spend your days and evenings. Even if you can carve out a few hours a week by changing your unproductive habits, you can make extra money doing a variety of things.

You may be surprised that this post is not just a list of ideas, but the truth is that your ideas will be unique to your situation, and they will flood into your consciousness once you’ve opened the door for them. There are millions of ways to earn extra money. There is ALWAYS a way, and as you’ve seen in this post, the path sometimes involves asking ourselves uncomfortable questions. We need to be willing to change our habits to improve our outcomes, and once we are set on the path of being willing to do what it takes, opportunities and ideas for how to earn extra money will come naturally.

P.S. One last question: what kind of example are you showing your kids with your habits? Just asking…

This is the beauty of the internet, everyone has a chance. It is not only for the select few like it used to be. It is open to everyone that has the courage and discipline to make it happen. So take a chance! Blogging, social networking, we live in great times.

    Hi Shauna!

I couldn’t agree more with your post. After being laid off last year and realizing just how tough the job market is, I found several ways to supplement my family’s income. I started working with a direct sales company, I became a mystery shopper, I joined focus group companies and began working as a freelance writer. There are always so many options available and sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the “attracting” part and forget that you have to get out there and take action as well!

Laura, congratulations! You are now creating income for yourself regardless of what the ‘job market’ is doing…that is so wonderful to hear and will inspire many readers. You don’t have to start a huge business to create money — you are also diversifying, which is fabulous. Thanks so much for stopping by, and continued success to you. :)

@Jason, you are right! The internet does open up new opportunities to so many, as long as they are willing to learn and try different things. Thanks for your visit — it’s definitely a fun and interesting time to be alive.

What if the world were different? What if the world were a place where everybody was happy? What if the world were a place where everything (animals and plant life included) was at peace? What if we, as humans, lived harmoniously with our surroundings? What if the purpose of life was to be joyful – all the time? The intention of this blog is to provide examples of answers to these questions.

We are all co-creators of the future.

Adhering to this premise, all of the posts that can be found at “Imagine Into Being” are intended to co-create the future. These “imaginings” are wonderful additions to the possibilities of what is to happen in the future. Every thought ever created is part of a grander collection of thoughts. The more times a thought is believed and energy it garners (by way of more and more people believing it), the more likely it is that this thought is going to occur. This is the perfect reason for this blog.

The world is aching for more positive and intentional thoughts to be added to the collection. This blog seeks to do that by contributing a number of intentional and very different possibilities for the world.

Thanks for sharing this Shauna, I do agree that we are the only ones that can control the power to attract abundance in life. I have read the science of getting rich and wallace wattles explained that part of our right is the right to be rich and I believe that it’s correct. Getting more money or as you have said attracting money should start from our positive thinking and affirmations and law of attraction works on this because in time we’ll take deliberate steps to make sure our dream and our desires can be achieve. This is a cool post, keep it up.

Thanks, Rishan, for your visit and for taking the time to comment. It’s only when we have ‘enough money not to worry about money,’ as Brian Tracy says, that we can really dig into life and expand who we are and what we came here to accomplish. I know there are exceptions, but most people who struggle with lack of financial resources seem to be extremely stressed about it, which does not lead to a creative, happy life. Cheers to abundance of all sorts, including financial!
