How much faith do you have in the things you have asked for?

Yesterday we had a conversation – you know, with the regular culprits, my prosperity partners. I wanted to work on resistance to money and winning the lotto. After all, I asked for a billion dollars to make it to the Forbes 400 richest list, so every little bit helps. Anyway I wanted to work on any limiting beliefs I may have to the winning the lotto, so one by one I asked for a list of reasons ‘Why I couldn’t win the lotto.’

During this little ‘find out what’s holding you back’ session I had an important thought about faith. I asked the question ‘Could I go to the Bentley dealership and go test drive my Bentley based on the belief that I’m going to win $177 million tomorrow? Could I take that leap of faith?’ The answer was no – I’d feel utterly stupid to tell the sales guy ‘Hey, be back tomorrow after I win my $177 mill to take this baby home!’ Then it hit me. Wow! That means I say I’m gonna win the lotto but I don’t truly believe that, do I?

My mother has this habit, and before now I always thought it was a really bad habit; I’d always get so frustrated when she did it. I’d call her and go ‘Hey, I’m sending you money’ and she’d go ‘When?’ I’d go ‘Probably tomorrow’ – My mom lives in Jamaica so in her language that means right now but in my language it means whenever I get around to it…So I’d get bogged down with stuff – you know taking out the trash, cooking – and 2 days later my phone will ring with my mom on the other line in a huff. Well what’s the matter? – SHE’S ALREADY SPENT THE MONEY THAT I HAVEN’T SENT YET! It always got to me how someone could spend money they haven’t gotten, and how my mom had gotten so good at this task, but today as I sat and thought about it I realize that it’s absolute faith; faith that the money is coming, faith that it will come soon and faith that I’ll answer my phone and rush off to go send it to her.

I remember when I bought my first house – I had no clue how I’d pay the mortgage. I would go sit in that house with horrible purple carpets and think ‘This is gonna be mine.’ At the time I only made like $14k a year, so you can understand my fear of how I’d afford this house, but my determination to have it and that the money would show up to pay for it was great. I remember the first few days of buying it – I had no furniture, and my daughter, who was a baby at the time, and I had to sleep on just a mattress on the ground, but I was determined that things would work out. Within a week, I lost my $14k job. Great! Now my first mortgage was due in a month and no job to pay for it…but still it had to work out because I was most definitely not going to move back with my family. I had made myself a promise – I was never going back. Within two weeks I had a brand new $30k a year job and a paycheck in time for my first mortgage, because my faith that things had to work out was unshakeable.

I think about these times and it occurs to me that I want things but I don’t make that huge leap of faith and jump off the deep end to get them. I mean jump off and then worrying about swimming once you are there and/or flying…When you are broke those leaps of faiths are easier because you have no choice – it’s more of if I don’t jump what will my life be like? – I have to take this leap of faith…

I remember my grandparents’ pastor and I talked once…He wanted me to get baptised…Me not so much. So I said my belief isn’t strong enough yet…He said ‘If you are waiting for your belief to be strong for you to take a leap of faith then you will be waiting forever.’

Why aren’t we taking these leaps of faith? Because we don’t really trust ourselves or the Universe. I’ve asked for a blue Bentley – why have I not gone ahead and made preparations for the Bentley? If I truly expected the Universe to deliver, why haven’t I figured out insurance costs? Gas mileage? Are we acting from a place of expectancy? Meaning not just asking, but when you think about buying a house, you check your credit, work on whatever problems you have, furniture shop, give your landlord notice, talk to mortgage and real estate brokers…You act as if the house is coming…

I was watching TV and on comes a doggy commerical, where they show the dogs at all ages. Some were 14 years old, some were 16 years. I thought that’s so cute, I should go get a doggy…I had that thought for a whole 5 seconds till I snapped back to reality and thought who will clean this said dog’s poop? Not me! Anyway, say I decided to go ahead and get said dog. I know it’s coming – would I let the dog come home without preparing for it? Wouldn’t I go buy Doggie food, Doggie bowl, Doggie toys, Doggie leash? Isn’t that how we prepare for a doggie to show up in our lives? Isn’t that how we know the doggie is coming…?

Now back to my $177 million lotto winnings coming shortly. If I was 199% sure that I’d be 177 million dollars richer, what leaps of faith would I take? Would I start calling banks and investment firms to find out how my $177 will be taken care of? Would I open trusts? What could I do today that would show that I’ve not only asked, but that I’m acting from a place of expectancy of whatever I’ve asked for? I’m not saying go buy a car you cannot afford, but if you knew the money was coming with absolute faith wouldn’t you go at least test drive the car? Would you get mats that say Ophelia? Okay well you wouldn’t but I would…

If you’ve ever had a job you know what I’m talking about. You expect to get paid at a set time and you expect the money, you know it’s coming, you plan for it. The rent/mortgage gets paid, you plan how you will pay the car note; you even send off the checks before the money even gets there. You have no doubt your employer will pay you…Even a brand new job – you apply for it and you hear that you will start work on Monday. Let’s say you get $30k increase in pay – dont you instantly start making plans for this new money that you expect to get really shortly? So why are we not doing this with our own money creations?

Whatever you have asked for, how much would your actions change if you knew it was coming without fail?…If you acted from a place of ‘it’s coming’ instead of ‘let’s wait and see if it comes’…
